I am not just one thing. I am many. I am divinity shaped by a broken past. And in my scattered fragments, you will find a dark and hidden beauty. I am a story waiting to be read. I am a work of art waiting to be felt. And in all that I create and consume, I long to feel I am someplace far away and yet utterly home all at once.

About Me

  • WHO I AM.

I am a...powerful goddess (at least I like to think I am). A Wife. A cat mom. An Enthusiast of Edward V, Greek mythology, and fairies. I love art and good stories.

My name is Vanessa Paige Israel. I am the youngest of four siblings, all of whom were homeschooled. I was raised in a conservative Christian home in the Central Valley of California where we had a boer meat goat ranch.
In 2010, I moved with my family to South Dakota and started a church. That would be the first of a series of moves.
In 2012, I had my first paying job. My life changed a lot that year.
In 2015, I started this blog and really began to focus on writing and building a writing community for myself.
In 2017, I moved to Oregon where I lived and worked for nearly a year and a half. I also met the man who would become my husband.
In 2018, I finished college online, graduating from Thomas Edison State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Later the same year, I moved to San Diego and got married.
In 2020, I published my first book!!

  • ABOUT MY WRITING.

I have been writing since I was old enough to know how, from short stories to novellas, though I didn't know I wanted to be an author until I was about 12 years old. To date, I have completed about 30 short stories and 4 novellas. The Story of Hollyhocks is my first novel, which I self-published though it is no longer available, as I am working on releasing a revised edition. You can also check out a novella I wrote when I was 13, The Enchanted Island.

I love to read, I enjoy mostly fantasy such as LOTR or Under the Oak Tree, dark fantasy such as Lost Boy or Coraline, ancient Greek literature such as The Odyssey or Daphnis and Chloe, classics like Alice in Wonderland or Jane Eyre, and Greek mythology retellings such as Atalanta or The Golden Fleece. I enjoy fiction occasionally too, banned books specifically, such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower or The Lord of the Flies. And of course how could I not love horror stories like Dracula or IT.

If there is one thing I want you to know, it is this: I am a writer. I write not because I wish to teach you something which you do not already know, nor do I wish to tell you something you have heard a thousand times. I do not write because I have a story I think you need to hear. I write because I have a story burning within me, desperately trying to escape. I have to write. I used to believe, that if I ever got published or not, I would never stop writing. I still hold those values and I still write many things I never intend to publish, it just so happens that I am a published author now (feels so weird saying that).

  • WHY I BLOG.

I started this blog in the late summer of 2015. I have a tendency to overshare on so many topics. Upon meeting with a published author, she suggested I start a blog as an outlet for me to talk about my writing projects. It was a way for me to share my ideas with the world and gain a following of readers who would be interesting in reading my stories.

I don't just post about my book though. I want my blog to be a creative outlet for me to write about my life events, my writing, and other projects I'm working on, such as painting or drawing, traveling, etc.

  • OTHER THINGS I LIKE.

Some random facts about me: I am truly fascinated with the ancient art of puppetry, especially marionettes. I currently own seven. My dream is to one day own a hand-carved wooden marionette from Prague, Czech Republic. If I could travel to just one place in my lifetime though, I'd go to England!!
I also love toys and American Girl and going to toy stores and embracing my inner child.
I like a wide variety of music, mostly folk, indie, and celtic, some alternative music, and some good oldies (music from the 60's-80's).
Some other things I like include anime (especially Tokyo Ghoul), Tim Burton films (all of them, but have you seen Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street?), horror films, Alice In Wonderland, Peter Pan, Disney movies (and Disneyland), Supernatural, Doctor Who, and books (obviously).
